Duncan Hooker I.A.M.

I am a retired IT consultant, having worked for Fujitsu - the Japanese Information Technology and Services Company - from 1974 until 2012, designing software solutions for UK government departments, international banks, and other large organizations. After moving to the Tenbury Wells area in 2010 and retiring from full-time employment in 2012, I decided that I would like some part-time employment, and the opportunity of driving work with Virtual Rank really interested me. I have held a full driving licence since 1964, but of course I had to be re-examined for my driving skills; and tested on various other competences required for obtaining a private hire driving licence. I have been driving for Virtual rank since July 2012, and thoroughly enjoy meeting with the customers and accompanying them to their desired destinations. I have met many pleasant, interesting and sincere people during the two and a half years driving and working for Virtual Rank.

I am married to Jenny and we live a mile and a half from Tenbury Wells. Jenny works part-time as a practice nurse. We have a son who lives in Prague, and a daughter who lives in Surrey; and so far two grandsons. My hobbies include bellringing (campanology) and beekeeping, as well as the occasional game of whist.

I am a full member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

Jim Angus

Hi,

My name is Jim, I moved to Tenbury Wells in 2010 and needed some work to keep going while I set up my own business, so what better way to learn the area and get to know people than driving a cab. My main business is training people to drive www.jimangus.co.uk. I teach in an automatic car which is great for those people who have tried to learn in a manual and given up. I am also an Occupational Road Safety Consultant and am able to advise on company road safety policy, check driving licences with the DVLA, check company car drivers knowledge and understanding and if necessary retrain drivers to be safer and more economical. I am also an advanced driving instructor so can help all drivers improve their own driving standards.

So doing all that why am I still driving a cab in my spare time...........its simple really, I enjoy it, meeting new people going to new places all good fun plus it keeps my personal skills up to scratch.

John Atkinson

I am a retired Landscape Architect who moved to South Shropshire in 2007. Prior to retirement I had worked for Birmingham City Architects Dept, then for an environmental consultancy in Edinburgh, later for Dave Thomas golf course designer based in Cheshire & southern Spain and finally as a self-employed consultant. The jobs entailed working on major developments in the UK ranging from the Shetland Isles to the Isle of Wight, plus throughout Europe and in China and Taiwan. Driving long distances was often a necessary part of the job, as was waiting in airports!

In 1998 my wife and I established a livery stables business but sold up to move to Shropshire where we have a small-holding now with our own horses, sheep and rare breed chickens; see www.courtlodgepoultry.co.uk In 2001 we set up a retail website, www.dressagecollections.biz which sells equipment for dressage riders and competition organisers. In addition we deal in antiques and collectables at antique centres in Shrewsbury and near Nantwich, Cheshire. Although generalists, we do specialise in china, glass, 60s-80s vinyl records and fossils, www.fossilearth.co.uk

I have always enjoyed driving and doing so part-time for Bizzy Cars gives me the opportunity to see the ever changing landscape and meet and talk with interesting people.

Pauline Start I.A.M.

I am a qualified Homeopathist and enjoy driving to supplement my income and have a change of scene.

Phil Wakeman I.A.M.

I joined Virtual Rank in a role as both an administration and support team member and as a driver with the company.

I am an I.A.M. proficient driver, and was a volunteer 'Observer', helping to train other candidate's for the I.A.M.- Kidderminster group, for around five years.

My  working background and experience are essentially within the brewing and drinks industry over a period of some 35 years - both directly and indirectly.

Having held positions in Free Trade Sales, Retail Area Management , New Business Sales and 'Field' Sales Force I.T. Training, I also became a Social Clubs 'Trouble Shooter' and Business Adviser in that period for 168 (Royal British Legion) Clubs in the Midlands, Wales and Ireland over a 14 year span keeping me indirectly involved with the Brewing and Drinks Industry.

I have always been interested in Motor Vehicles and Motor Sport and love driving. During my years 'on the road' - having left school to join the Express & Star and Shropshire Star, mean my working life has always involved driving , whether short or long distances. It was 2000 when I learnt to ride a motor cycle.

In one year I once 'clocked up' in total 83000 (mainly business plus a few 'social') miles whilst working for Mansfield Brewery. From records I have kept, I have driven well over 1 Million miles in company cars. I estimates that in total since 1971 the figure is realistically and conservatively wel over 1.6 million miles - an estimated average of 35550 miles a year (with not a lorry involved! ).

Who knows, the 2 million mile target may even be reached !
